On the eve of Succot
Beis Hashita, 1984
On the eve of Succot, I searched for our neighborhood sukkah, which was put up in the "date neighborhood" to which we had been associated. When I arrived at the sukkah, I found a few people who had sat there and had left following a brief "program".
I searched for the spirit of the holiday, the joy and did not find it.
I think we ought to terminate the custom of building neighborhood sukkot and reestablish warm and communal holiday celebrations in the dining room.
